About the Coaching Staff
Chris Gabrielli – Head Coach
Providence College Athletics Director Bob Driscoll announced the hire of Chris Gabrielli on June 21, 2012. Gabrielli becomes the eighth head coach of the Providence men's lacrosse program.
"I am thrilled to welcome Chris Gabrielli to the Friar family as head coach of our men's lacrosse program," Driscoll said. "His championship-level experience as an assistant coach, especially at Duke University, will aid him in the continued growth of our program here at Providence. The BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Conference is one of the premier leagues in the country, and our vision for the program is to compete for championships. I believe that Chris possesses all of the tools necessary to bring our lacrosse team to the next level."
Gabrielli comes to Providence College after spending the last six seasons as an assistant coach at Duke University, where he worked primarily with the Blue Devils' defensive unit. Matt Francis – Assistant Coach
Matt Francis will embark on his first season with the Friars as an assistant coach during the 2016-17 academic year.
While at Binghamton, Francis served as the program’s recruiting coordinator, defensive coordinator and face-off coordinator. He helped develop and mentor 12 All-Conference selections during his tenure. Francis also helped the Bearcats earn a No. 2 seed in the America East Tournament in 2014. It marked the program’s first appearance in the league’s conference tournament since 2011, and highest seed in the tournament since 2004.
Francis began his coaching career at Marist College as an assistant coach (2010-12) and helped guide the Red Foxes to consecutive appearances in the MAAC Tournament semifinals. While with the Red Foxes, Francis served as face-off coordinator and assistant defensive coordinator.Read More
Matt Musci – Assistant Coach
Providence College men’s lacrosse Head Coach Chris Gabrielli announced today [July 26) that Matt Musci has joined his staff as an assistant coach. Musci spent the previous four seasons at Lafayette College.
Matt Musci began his tenure at Lafayette as an assistant coach and was promoted to associate head coach in August of 2015. Musci was responsible for Lafayette’s offensive unit and the program’s recruiting efforts. He also has coached and mentored over 50 student-athletes who have earned Patriot League Academic Honor Roll recognition. In 2014, Musci was selected as an assistant coach for the USILA North/South All-Star Game.
Before arriving at Lafayette, Musci spent four seasons as the top assistant lacrosse coach at Saint Leo University (Fla.), where he was the defensive coordinator for three seasons before taking over as offensive coordinator in his final year with the program. He also was in charge of recruiting, travel planning and helping to maintain Saint Leo’s scholarship budget.Read More
